Christopher and Emma
Their Story
Emma Turner makes ceramics from her garden studio in Christchurch. She graduated with a Diploma in Art and Design from the Dunedin Art School in 2020 and has since established a busy studio practice. She is inspired by everyday objects, environments, and the small stories associated with her surroundings.
What They Make
Contemporary ceramic pieces including tableware (large and small plates, carefully shaped cups, tiny dishes), necklaces, wall hangings ("Wall Things"), and aprons. Her collection features unique and vibrant faces with ears for handles, and tiny dishes adorned with colorful insects. Her work is characterized by minimalist forms and colorful decoration, sometimes incorporating "five-year-old scribbles" or more gestural, abstract mark-making.
